Thanks to the generous support of Social Entrepreneurs Ireland, I hosted a virtual 90 minute trauma-informed yoga class for the Life after Trauma community. Huge thanks to our instructor Elly, and to everyone who joined us. Here’s a brief interview with Elly about her background and what trauma-informed yoga has brought to her life.

💬 Participant feedback

“It has taken me 50 years to find a yoga class focused on trauma.”

“I really enjoyed the class, the invitational language was really different to more ‘regular’ yoga classes. It felt like a little safe haven for connecting to yourself and focusing less on how to do the poses ‘right’ and more on what might feel helpful and good for your own body. The teacher was really grounding and the facilitator was very friendly and inviting. It was a really beneficial class. I’d love to do more.”

“I needed this class so much. Thank you for creating a respite from the stress of life and for creating a space to spend time with our bodies. I am already looking forward to the next one.”

“I rush around so much in my daily life. The best part [of the class] was creating space for something slow and intentional. It felt like a deep breath that resonated throughout my body.”

“I have been unable to attend a yoga class in almost ten years as they have not felt accessible for reasons I have not been able to articulate. This trauma sensitive session was such a breath of fresh air. The invitations to try out different shapes and the options provided within each invitation felt like just what I needed to get back on the mat. I felt very safe and supported throughout. Thank you!”

“The language used was very open to making it specific to your body and needs. It helped me to feel less pressure to get the pose "right" and in general the teacher was very grounding, warm, safe, open and friendly.”
